Episode 28 - The Path to the Black Lodge
Tuesday May 02, 2017
Tuesday May 02, 2017
John Justice Wheeler shows Audrey his "plane", Major Briggs checks out the local terrain, hand shakes drive the townspeople insane...and is that BOB coming back again? We've got torches to light the the path to the Black Lodge...you coming with us?
Agent Cooper finally realizes that Windom Earle is playing by a different set of rules, and with the clock ticking, the race is on to discover what the game is and how to beat him. It begins to dawn on him that maybe Earle didn't come to Twin Peaks for him...that maybe his goal all along was something of far greater and more devastating import... Meanwhile, unbeknownst to everyone, Major Briggs is abducted in the woods by Windom Earle, who seems hell-bent on extracting as much information from his former Project Blue Book colleague as he can. Cooper takes Annie dancing, and has a warning visit from The Giant. There's something wrong here, indeed. Because up in the woods...in the dark of night...near a circle of sycamores...
Also: Lucy's gonna pick a baby daddy! Ben has a plan to raise the visibility of Stop Ghostwood! Donna discovers her birth certificate! Audrey and Jack take their relationship to the next level! Put your right hand in and shake it all about: it's episode 2x20 of Twin Peaks, and things are definitely heating up!
Notes:
Would be seriously remiss if we didn't credit John Thorne's amazing Twin Peaks bible The Essential Wrapped in Plastic here, again, for providing us with a host of amazing facts and tidbits, including the quote about the Dugpas. It truly is an essential book, a must-have for fans!
Haloperidol is an antipsychotic used to treat a variety of conditions, from schizophrenia to Tourette's, manic phases in people with bipolar disorder, and alcohol withdrawal. It's not known to be useful as a truth serum the way that Windom Earle seems to use it here, and it's doubtful it would *cause* delirium in someone who was otherwise healthy...but we'll let it slide, because who really knows what's in the syringe?
The words spoken backwards by the Major seem to be "That gum you like is going to come back in style", according to folks at Nerdist in their episode recap. We were unable to play the file that we found and couldn't make heads or tails of what we recorded and then played backwards, so if you have a better guess or an answer to the question of what the Major is saying, hit us up! We'd love to hear it!

Episode 27 - Variations on Relations
Tuesday Apr 25, 2017
Tuesday Apr 25, 2017
There's a cave puzzle to decipher, Ben fancies himself a moral advisor, and Rusty's not having a good day either...buckle up, Heavy Metal Youths, it's party time! (We promise, there are brewskies...)
The mysteries of Owl Cave continue to unfold as the Sheriff's Department continues their investigation into its origins and meanings. But they aren't the only ones trying to crack the code: Windom Earle has been to the petroglyph and is now hot on the same trail. Enlisting the help of Major Briggs (for his connection to Project Blue Book and, thus, to Windom Earle) the fellas seem poised to make headway. Cooper also realizes that Audrey, Donna, and Shelly are being targeted by Windom Earle, and that the poem he sent them is one that Cooper sent to Caroline before she was murdered. Seems like the perfect time for Cooper to take Annie on a romantic nature study...but who's that watching from the shoreline? Elsewhere in Twin Peaks, Catherine lets Pete the poet have a go at the puzzle box Eckhardt left behind. There's another event for the Stop Ghostwood campaign, this time involving wine tasting. And Windom Earle finally makes good on his threat to take another piece from the board...literally.
Also! Ben is tempted to do bad! Donna confronts her parents! Bobby takes a tone with Shelly! Gordon makes his move! Jack gets a telegram! Coop drinks milk! With so many new players on the stage, the stakes are steadily building...but what is all this sweet work really worth? We're counting down the days to the big finale, when all (mostly) will be revealed!

Episode 26 - On the Wings of Love
Tuesday Apr 18, 2017
Tuesday Apr 18, 2017
Harry's looking pretty grave, JJW becomes Audrey's new fave, & the Sheriff's Department visits a cave! Buckle up, Peakies! We're flying on the wings of love today!
Harry has a hangover and both Cooper and Gordon find themselves twitterpated as they fall for members of Norma's Double R staff! But while everyone's making heart eyes at each other over slices of pie, Windom Earle continues his dangerous game, this time with cards as the metaphor instead of chess. As we inch closer and closer to the inevitable confrontation between Agent Cooper and his Moriarty, the stakes are raised: there's new love in the air and a diverting new game on the horizon, this time involving...beauty pageants?
Also: John Justice Wheeler asks Ben for permission to date his daughter! Andy spelunks past Lucy's window! Donna's has more suspicions about her mother!
Let's fly! It's 2x18: "On the Wings of Love"
Notes:
Pretty sure we named the wrong card suit when talking about Agent Cooper's card in Windom's deck; he's the King of Spades (which has now caused us to start singing that old Canadian #1 song "King of Spain" by Moxy Früvous: "...now I eat humble pie!")

Episode 25 - Wounds and Scars
Tuesday Apr 11, 2017
Tuesday Apr 11, 2017
Truman's feelin' low, Annie says Hello, John Justice Wheeler sings adagio, and Windom Earle plots his overthrow...
A day after the death of his beloved Josie, Truman is in the dumps and Cooper does his best (which isn't saying much) to cheer him up. But while the sheriff's department rallies around their sheriff, Windom Earle still looms just out of sight, and soon enough, Cooper is going to have his sights on someone else entirely...
Also: Annie starts her first shift at the Double R! Audrey and Jack go on a picnic! Donna and Shelly get a visitor! Margaret and Major Briggs compare tattoos! And the pine weasel takes center stage!
We're tending some pretty big Wounds and Scars this week with Episode 25 of Twin Peaks!
Notes:
No confirmation that Barry Pullman is related to Bill. Aidan haz a sad.
The origin of NBC's Must See TV is older than we thought but not by much, having been started in the 1980s with The Cosby Show, though it reached its cultural zenith in the 1990s with shows like Friends, Seinfeld, Just Shoot Me, Will & Grace, and Mad About You absolutely dominating in the ratings. At one point, NBC called its entire weekly primetime schedule "Must See TV" because of the quality of their comedy programming. This all ended in the early 2010s as shows like The Office, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation all bid farewell. Must See TV as a "thing" is no more. A eulogy for a fad.

Episode 24 - The Condemned Woman
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Tuesday Apr 04, 2017
Today: Coop and Albert get nosy, the Angels explore the art of poesy, Ed & Norma get real cozy...and--no, really guys--what the hell happened to Josie?!
Cooper and Albert zero in on the culprit behind who shot Cooper in his hotel room, as well as who shot Jonathan in the Seattle airport...and the result of their investigation isn't going to sit well with Sheriff Truman, who already knows the truth. Elsewhere, Josie comes face-to-face with yet another figure from her sordid past, and the wheels are set in motion, picking up speed as they carry her to her eventual fate.
Also: Audrey falls head over heels for a near-total stranger! Ben Horne turns a new leaf! Nadine breaks up with Ed! Norma breaks up with Hank! Josie breaks up with life on the corporeal plane of existence! Is this finally the end of the Season 2 nadir? Who knows anything about poetry? And what's BOB got to do with this?
These questions and many more will remain largely unanswered at the end of today's episode, but don't touch that drawer pull: we're just getting started with Twin Peaks Season 2 episode 16: "The Condemned Woman"
Notes:
Aidan asked for it, so we'll deliver: here is this week's mangled translation, put through Google Translate in German, to English, to Turkish, to French, to Spanish, and then back into English: "They Have Low" (Not a bad title. I think that's what we'll refer to this episode as from now on...)
Joan Chen runs a food blog! And she posted her story, in her own words, about why she left Twin Peaks. It's lovely and bittersweet and very poignant, and it's coupled with a coconut cookie recipe that sounds kind of amazing, so definitely check it out
"The price of eggs" is absolutely a saying. We had honestly never heard it before! Clearly we have been tainted by the creepiness of JJW if our first thought was to ascribe something different to his meaning...

Special Episode - My Life My Tapes
Friday Mar 31, 2017
Friday Mar 31, 2017
Wherein Aidan, Lindsay, and special guest Eileen delve into The Autobiography of FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper: My Life My Tapes by Scott Frost.
Written during Season 2 and released when the show was nearing its cancellation date, Dale Cooper's autobiography has long been divisive amongst Twin Peaks fans, who seem to either love it or hate it. We will attempt to break down the big themes and understand a little bit more about the nature of this book, what it's trying to say, and where it might be pointing us to as we come to the end of our original series recaps.
Notes:

Special thanks to Kevin (@KevMack1213) and John (@jpb_littlegreen) for spurring on discussion, both on Twitter and within this podcast episode!
Big ups to Lee S. Millard whose beautifully digitized version of the out-of-print My Life My Tapes was how we all managed to read this book for the ep. You can find it here (in iBook and PDF format)
"Diane: The Twin Peaks Tapes of Agent Cooper" is available to listen to here
Eileen realized she misspoke after we finished recording, and insisted I issue a correction: she cited the novel The Great Gatsby when she in fact meant to cite Pride & Prejudice...as a teacher, she felt it was prudent to get that fact straight!
We also didn't correct ourselves about the topic of Donna's blue sweater: she did not wear it during her first visit with the Tremonds but instead wears it when she gets Laura's glasses from Maddy.
Who is Marshall McLuhan? Glad you asked
